Artifact Overview

Mailing colorful, commercially designed greeting cards was a 20th-century American tradition. During the holidays, friends and neighbors commonly exchanged cards wishing one another a Merry Christmas or Happy New Year. Cards sometimes depicted nostalgic scenes of bygone days. This card from the mid-1900s shows people bustling about dressed as if from earlier times. And there are no automobiles, only horse-drawn vehicles.
