Bean Winnower

THF192303 / Bean Winnower
01

Artifact Overview

During harvest, American laborers cut, thresh, and clean dry beans and grains. After cutting and threshing, laborers could toss the beans into the air, and allow the wind to blow away debris. This machine eliminated the need for the wind. Instead, laborers put beans on the screen, and with gentle shaking, debris falls through, while dry beans roll across the screen, down the hole, and into a container.
