01

Artifact Overview

Zebulon Davis, a North Carolina farmer, and his wife, Ivora [center], pose with their family in this informal photograph. Their son, Cleoda, sits on his father's lap. As a young man, Cleoda, like millions of other Black and white Southerners, left the rural South to find work in the industrial North during the first half of the 20th century. Cleoda settled in the Detroit area.
