Princess Cruises, a vacation cruise line company, began operations in 1965. Its first cruise -- on a chartered ship -- left Los Angeles, California, for the west coast of Mexico. In the late 1970s and 1980s, Princess Cruises featured prominently in ABC's popular romantic comedy television series The Love Boat, boosting its brand and the entire vacation cruise industry.
