Artifact Overview

Many early cars used foot pedals to control acceleration, braking, or engagement and disengagement of the clutch. The Ford Model T used a foot pedal to activate its reverse gear. The Rives Manufacturing Company offered aftermarket rubber foot-pedal pads that prevented feet from slipping and reduced wear on shoe soles.
