The "Turkey Shoot" in Greenfield Village started in 1955. It became an annual festival and drew hundreds of participants interested in muzzleloading firearms. Activities included target shooting, costume displays, and fife and drum music. The event's popularity led to the inauguration of the Muzzle Loaders Festival in the mid-1960s. The Muzzle Loaders Festival was discontinued in the late 1980s.
