Buttonhook Collection

01

Artifact Overview

Albert Morris collected buttonhooks. Morris was born with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve disease that can cause muscle weakness and contracture. In the 1960s, as the disease progressed, he found it more difficult to button his shirts. Morris discovered the buttonhook, an age-old device with a slender hook that pulls a button through a buttonhole. He amassed more than 120, creating this case to display them.
