In June 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that abortion was not a constitutionally protected right, overturning the court's previous decisions in Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). Several states then moved to protect abortion rights, while others reinstated or introduced abortion restrictions. In Michigan, voters passed Proposal 3: a state constitutional amendment to protect reproductive rights, including abortion.
