Fragment From Tree Purportedly Used As Hitching Post by George Washington in 1776
01
Artifact Overview
According to the donor, this piece of wood came from a sycamore tree used as a hitching post by George Washington in 1776. The Camden, New Jersey, tree was cut down in 1932 and this piece was donated. While some relics' historical connections may have doubtful importance, to some that circuitous connection to the past or ties to famous individuals is significance enough.
