The Detroit Boat Club, founded in 1839, is the oldest sport rowing club in the United States. The club moved its headquarters from mainland Detroit to Belle Isle in 1889. The current boathouse--one of the oldest fully concrete buildings in the U.S.-- was constructed in 1902, after two previous iterations burned down.
