Tea Urn, 1800-1810
01
Artifact Overview
Despite political tensions leading up to the War of 1812, English manufacturers continued to create export goods for the American market. This elegant piece, which was part of a larger set, was designed to satisfy an American taste for classical motifs. To early nineteenth-century Americans, its "classic" shape symbolized the rebirth of democracy and representative government in the young republic.
