THF94482 / Putnam Stationary Steam Engine, 1886
01

Artifact Overview

This Putnam Machine Company engine ran machinery at the J.R. Torrey Razor Company in Worchester, Massachusetts. Power was transmitted to the machinery by a leather belt which ran on the outside of the flywheel. The engine's design permits the flywheel to be on either the right or left--a popular function that makes it adaptable to a variety of factory engine rooms.
