Artifact Overview

Car owners in the 1960s placed a small metal tag on the dipstick to help remind them when to change the car's oil. Vehicle operators needed to see this tag, so opening the hood and inspecting the engine was a necessity. Today, small clear plastic windshield tags and even pre-programmed instrument panel lights remind drivers of their automotive maintenance responsibility.
