Artifact Overview

Written on the inside flap of this wallet are the words, "William James Womack, A.D. 1861, His Pocketbook." Womack's daughter recalled that her father brought the wallet, and the two ten dollar Confederate bills it contained, back from the South during the Civil War. Many Civil War soldiers collected such "souvenirs" while serving in the army.
