Artifact Overview

Children's clothing has increasingly included images that have appeal for a child. An early example is this pair of boots with a figure of a dashing Zouave soldier. Some Civil War units on both sides adopted the uniform and tactics of the French Army's Zouave regiments--modeled after the fast-moving, agile fighting styles of the Algerian Berbers who had fought the French in North Africa.
