Transformers can change from vehicles into robots -- either good Autobots or evil Decepticons -- and back again. Released by Hasbro, Inc. in 1984, these successfully marketed action figures quickly transformed into an entertainment franchise with comic books, television shows, video games and several feature-length Hollywood movies.

At the Indianapolis 500 in May 1965, Scotsman Jim Clark became the first driver to win Indianapolis in a rear-engine car -- the days of front-engine-car victories at the Indy 500 were over. Clark was also the first foreign driver to win since 1916.

This image was taken at the 1968 American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) held at Riverside, California. The ARRC brought together winners of regional competitions and crowned end-of-year champions in various sports car classes.

This meter measures the flow of electric current through a circuit. Early meters like this helped companies that supplied electricity to customers monitor usage and charge appropriate rates. Shallenberger's meter also paved the way for the acceptance of AC power distribution.
