- Crestwood Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder, 1951 - In 1930, a new material--plastic tape coated with magnetic pigment--opened worlds of possibility for sound recording and data storage. Professionals used open-reel magnetic tape recorders to pre-record radio shows; consumer models were used for home recording and music playback. The format was sonically superior to compact cassettes introduced in 1963, but shifted to niche use by the 1980s.

- Evergreen Branches and Pine Cones, 1949 - The artist Eyvind Earle (1916-2000) is best known for his work on the 1959 Walt Disney Studios animated film <em>Sleeping Beauty</em>, but he also designed Christmas cards. Earle began producing cards in his early twenties, selling them through his own company. Later, Earle joined the American Artists Group and continued designing Christmas cards. He would produce more than 800 designs throughout his career.

Modern ignition magnetos are still found in lawn mowers and chainsaws, and aircraft use magnetos as an independent electrical system. Auto manufacturers, however, found other methods to keep engines turning.
