The 1870s laboratory -- where Edison made many of his famous discoveries -- had been moved to Henry Ford's Greenfield Village in the late 1920s. With documentation provided by Greenfield Village staff, MGM built an impressive full-sized movie set of the laboratory in California.

He graduated with a degree in Scientific Glassblowing in 1963, then worked for various chemical laboratories making scientific instruments, like this condenser. Paul, however, dreamed of being an artist and in the late 1960s experimented with making paperweights--a creative form in which he would excel.

- Mickey Rooney Preparing for "Young Tom Edison," with Francis Jehl in Menlo Park Laboratory, October 23, 1939 - MGM's 1940 film <em>Young Tom Edison</em> explored the early life of the famous inventor. Mickey Rooney starred in the title role. In preparation for his part, Rooney visited Edison's reconstructed Menlo Park Laboratory at Greenfield Village.
