- The "Vagabonds" with President Harding on a Camping Trip, 1921 - Between 1916 and 1924, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs embarked on a series of annual camping trips. They called themselves the Four Vagabonds. This image shows the Vagabonds (minus Burroughs) with President Warren Harding, who joined them in 1921.

Between 1916 and 1924, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs embarked on a series of annual camping trips. They called themselves the Four Vagabonds. This image shows the Vagabonds (minus Burroughs) with President Warren Harding, who joined them in 1921.

But chance after chance, McClellan moved too slowly and cautiously to decisively win battles. Lincoln met with McClellan after the Battle of Antietam, urging him to pursue Robert E. Lee in battle. The meeting did not go well and about a month later, Lincoln relieved McClellan of command.

In 1921, the famous men and their families vacationed comfortably at a remote campsite in Maryland. They were accompanied by a caravan of vehicles, full service staff, specially designed cooking and electrical equipment, and a player piano brought from nearby Hagerstown to enliven evening festivities.

- Sales Catalog, Baltimore Bargain House, 1910 - Lithuanian immigrant Jacob Epstein turned his small wholesale store, founded in 1881, into one of the biggest businesses on Baltimore's west side by the turn of the century. Baltimore Bargain House became a hub for Southern Jewish merchants and other local businessmen. His catalogs featured a variety of clothing, personal accessories, fabrics and household goods available to shopkeepers and retailers.

Armed with this information, insurance underwriters could propose reasonable rates and offer protection against possible catastrophic financial loss in the event of a fire.
