- J.R. Jones General Store in Greenfield Village, September 2007 - This store, originally located in Waterford, Michigan, was the first building Henry Ford brought to Greenfield Village. From 1882 to 1888, storekeeper J.R. Jones sold products like coffee, sugar, fabric, and shoes here. This image, showing the left side of the store from the rear, reveals a range of store stock--from agricultural supplies to household equipment to groceries.

This store, originally located in Waterford, Michigan, was the first building Henry Ford brought to Greenfield Village. From 1882 to 1888, storekeeper J.R. Jones sold products like coffee, sugar, fabric, and shoes here. This image, showing the left side of the store from the rear, reveals a range of store stock--from agricultural supplies to household equipment to groceries.
- Thomas Edison Perfecting His Wax Cylinder Phonograph, 1888 - Throughout his life, Thomas Edison continued to develop the phonograph he had invented in 1877. On June 11, 1888, Edison launched a round-the-clock session with his assistants to perfect the phonograph. When he emerged from his West Orange, New Jersey, laboratory days later, the exhausted, slumping inventor posed for this photograph with his improved machine.

When he emerged from his West Orange, New Jersey, laboratory days later, the exhausted, slumping inventor posed for this photograph with his improved machine.
- Helen M. Schultz Brewer, Owner of Red Ball Bus Company, Iowa, circa 1924 - Helen M. Schultz started the Red Ball Transportation Company in 1922 with buses running from Waterloo to Des Moines, Iowa. Schultz met many challenges while establishing her business, including competition from rival bus lines and the railroad, government regulations, and poor highway conditions. She sold Red Ball to the Jefferson Highway Transportation Company in 1930.

- Wedding Portrait of Elizabeth Parke Firestone, June 25, 1921 - Elizabeth Parke, daughter of a prosperous Decatur, Illinois, businessman, and Harvey S. Firestone, Jr., son of the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, met at a dance at Princeton around 1920. Their 1921 wedding was the most lavish Decatur had ever seen. Elizabeth -- who would become well-known for a refined sense of fashion -- likely made her own wedding dress.
