Clara Ford, Edsel Ford, and Henry Ford with Friends at the "Square House," Dearborn, Michigan, 1904

01

Artifact Overview

Henry and Clara Ford moved into Square House -- so named for its 31-foot-square dimensions -- around June 1889. Clara designed the floor plan, and Henry built the house with lumber from the commercial sawmill he operated at the time. The couple moved to Detroit in September 1891, but they kept Square House as a summer cottage until 1937.
