People were thrilled and captivated / by the sight of this magnificent train both for its great speed / and for its stunning art deco-inspired design. / General Motors was responsible for furnishing the new F3's / powerful first-generation diesel engine. When this train was / unveiled, railroaders were astounded by its incredible speed, / which shattered previous records. By the mid-20th century, / diesel locomotives had replaced steam locomotives throughout / much of the world.
