The main plant for the H.J. Heinz Company was located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The complex required steam engines to provide electricity. The "Ideal" Steam Engine, manufactured by A.L. Ide & Son, was designed for efficiency with high speed, a compact body, and self-regulating mechanisms. The H.J. Heinz Company had several of these engines on its grounds, as seen in this photograph.
