Buyers of earlier motorized ambulances could either purchase a complete vehicle or buy a motor and chassis from an automaker and have a separate body made by a specialty builder. This Lincoln ambulance had a body built by Guider-Sweetland of Detroit, Michigan. Ambulances, like limousines and hearses, were referred to as professional cars.
