Artifact Overview

In 1914, Henry Ford and John Burroughs accompanied Thomas Edison on a motor trip through the Florida Everglades. The next year, Edison explored California with Ford and another friend, Harvey Firestone. These outings prompted Edison to propose that the group of friends go on another excursion together, which eventually led to a series of camping trips between 1916 and 1924.
