Tower Clock Movement, Made by Samuel Terry, 1829-1835
01
Artifact Overview
Most people didn't own clocks yet when this wooden clock movement was made. The movement would have been installed inside the tower of a public building like a town hall, college or church, marking time for the whole village or town. Samuel Terry, along with his more famous brother Eli, experimented with early machines that made interchangeable clock parts.
