Artifact Overview
More than 10,000 parts went into each Model T. Ford Motor Company's system of mass production required each one of those parts to be manufactured to exact tolerances, and to be fully interchangeable with any other of its kind. By splitting a car's construction into a series of distinct small steps, Ford's moving assembly line yielded enormous gains in productivity.
