Artifact Overview

Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs embarked on numerous camping trips between 1916 and 1924. They called themselves the Vagabonds and enjoyed retreating from the fast-paced world to explore nature. Various support staff were needed to maintain camp, including Ford's personal chef, Thomas Sato. On August 24th, 1918, the crew set up camp along Wolf Creek outside of Narrows, Virginia.
