Artifact Overview

Barney Litogot, a Civil War veteran, operated a farm in Taylor, Michigan, in the years following the war. In 1873, Litogot was appointed lighthouse keeper on Mamajuda Island in the Detroit River near Wyandotte, Michigan. He died of tuberculosis later that year. Litogot was the older brother of Henry Ford's mother -- the orphaned Litogots were adopted by different families as children.
