Clara Ford and her husband, Henry, did what they could to ease economic hardship during the Great Depression. The Fords gave produce from their farms to welfare agencies in southeast Michigan. Clara, as president of the Women's National Farm & Garden Association, promoted roadside markets as a way for rural women to supplement their families' incomes.
