Ford Motor Company Vice Presidents Andrew Kucher and George Walker with Levacar Mach 1 Concept Car at the Ford Rotunda, May 20, 1959

01

Artifact Overview

Ford Motor Company's Levacar Mach 1 concept car didn't ride on traditional wheels -- it hovered on a cushion of pressurized air. This functional single-seat prototype, displayed at the Ford Rotunda in Dearborn, Michigan, hovered in a circle while tethered to a central pivot. The vehicle was the brainchild of Andrew Kucher, Ford's Vice President--Engineering and Research.
