Artifact Overview

Cycling promised freedom. Men and women could cycle unescorted on their new wheels. This new social freedom is reflected in this sheet music from 1897. The cover shows a man and woman pedaling along a path in the moonlight. The couple, according to the lyrics, courted and planned to marry for "There's nothing to equal a ride on a tandem."
