This October 1952 issue of Hot Rod illustrated the lightweight steel-tube frame underlying Tom Beatty's Belly Tank Lakester. Made from external fuel tanks of surplus World War II fighter planes, Lakesters were raced on dry lake beds. Beatty's car set a number of Lakester land speed records during the 1950s and early 1960s.
