AMC Eagle Nameplate, circa 1983

01

Artifact Overview

AMC introduced the Eagle for 1980. The compact, four-wheel-drive car was unlike anything else on American roads at the time, and it's now viewed as a forerunner of the crossover vehicle segment. AMC touted the Eagle's car-like comfort and all-weather abilities. Nearly 200,000 Eagles were sold before Chrysler -- which purchased AMC in 1987 -- discontinued it in the 1988 model year.
