Handmade Pendant Necklace, 2010

01

Artifact Overview

The award-winning but controversial Heidelberg Project, begun in 1986, is artist Tyree Guyton's attempt to creatively fight back against the abandonment that scarred his boyhood neighborhood, just east of downtown Detroit. This "necklace from the 'hood," handmade by a local child, was an art project for neighborhood youth to understand how everyday items can be used in the creative process.
