A.J. Foyt began racing midget cars in the 1950s and quickly moved up the ranks. He won the Indianapolis 500 four times. In 1967, Foyt and his partner Dan Gurney drove the Ford Mark IV to victory at the Le Mans race in France. Foyt is the only driver to win the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, 24 Hours of Daytona, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
A.J. Foyt began auto racing at an early age. He began with midget cars in the 1950s and quickly moved up the ranks. He won the Indianapolis 500 four times--in 1961, 1964, 1967, and 1977. In 1967, A. J. Foyt and his partner Dan Gurney drove the Ford Mark IV to victory at the Le Mans race in France. This was Foyt's first European sports car race and the first time an American car and driver team had won at Le Mans. Foyt is the only driver to win the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, 24 Hours of Daytona, and 24 Hours of Le Mans. During his long racing career, Foyt has raced and won in midgets, stock cars, sports cars, Indy cars, and on dirt and paved courses and tracks. His company, A.J. Foyt Enterprises in Waller, Texas, currently runs three racing teams.

This car was built to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt, it accomplished that goal in 1967, beating the second-place Ferrari by 32 miles at a record-breaking average speed of 135.48 miles per hour. The Mark IV combined a sophisticated chassis with a big engine based on Ford's V-8 for stock car racing.
