In early 1940, George Washington Carver traveled to his friend Henry Ford's property in Ways, Georgia. Ford had decided to honor Carver by naming a school after him; Carver and his assistant Austin Curtis, Jr., attended a number of dedication events at the Georgia school. When Carver returned home to Tuskegee, Alabama, he sent Ford this grateful telegram.
