Artifact Overview
The Ford Motor Company added the Joseph S. Wood to its fleet in 1966. Ford refitted the ship and renamed it the John Dykstra in honor of a past president of Ford. The ship hauled raw material such as coal, iron ore, and limestone to Ford's River Rouge factory near Detroit, Michigan. The ship was sold in 1987.
