Mrs. Rotan's House at Folly Farms, circa 1940

01

Artifact Overview

Henry Ford purchased vast amounts of land around present-day Richmond Hill, Georgia, beginning in the 1920s. Though Ford eventually acquired 85,000 acres -- and even built a winter residence in the area -- there were still privately owned parcels. Folly Farms served as the winter home of Mrs. Allethaire Rotan, a wealthy Pennsylvania matron, until she moved to Savannah in the 1940s.
