J.P. Morgan was the most influential banker and financier in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He held financial interests in railroads, steel mills and manufacturers, and he amassed a personal fortune of $80 million. Morgan supported Thomas Edison's early electric experiments and played a key role in the formation of General Electric.
