Artifact Overview
The Fresh Air Camp was founded in 1921 to provide outdoor experiences for underprivileged boys. Campers could run, jump, swim, hike, and play outdoors. Established by members of the University of Michigan Student Christian Association, the camp found a permanent lakeside home in Livingston County, Michigan, in 1923. University students served as counselors and gained practical skills in education, social work, psychology and related fields.
