Nazi Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, igniting World War II. One year later, National Dairy Products Corporation president Thomas H. McInnerney wrote to Edsel Ford, president of Ford Motor Company. McInnerney invited Ford to contribute money toward the purchase of items from Poland's pavilion at the 1939-40 New York World's Fair as a memorial to the Polish people.
