In 1907, Alexander Graham Bell recruited a team of young aviation enthusiasts for his elite Aerial Experiment Association (AEA). At the Hammondsport, New York, facilities of Glenn Curtiss, the group's "motor expert," the AEA produced a string of airplanes (starting with Red Wing, pictured here) that contributed key developments to the fledgling field of aviation.
