Starting in the 1920s, Henry Ford purchased vast amounts of land around present-day Richmond Hill, Georgia. Here, Ford dabbled in agricultural experimentation, and he built a winter home. Ford spent $13,000 constructing a trade school with a powerhouse, a small sawmill, and a machine shop. Local boys were trained at the school in woodworking and metalworking.
