Artifact Overview
The Crystal Palace opened in New York City in 1853. The building, which covered an entire city block, housed exhibits for the Exposition of the Industry of All Nations world's fair. The building was destroyed in a massive fire on October 5, 1858. Miraculously, none of the 2,000 spectators in the Crystal Palace at the time were killed.
