Artifact Overview
Morris Markin formed Checker Motors Corporation in 1922. The company manufactured taxicabs at its plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, until 1982. The 1922 Model C cab was the first model built under the new badge. Its frame was made of a nickel-steel alloy and heavily reinforced with cross members. The sturdy frame helped establish Checker's reputation for durability.
