Artifact Overview

Morris Markin formed Checker Motors Corporation in 1922. The company manufactured taxicabs at its plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, until 1982. Checker introduced its Model M in late 1930. Powered by a six-cylinder engine, the Model M combined a stylish exterior with a roomy passenger compartment. It also featured the durable construction that became a Checker trademark.
