Edsel Ford and Eleanor Clay Ford were married on November 1, 1916, and had their first child a year later. Henry Ford II, named for Edsel's father, was born on September 4, 1917. He would grow up to run the family business, serving as president, then chairman and CEO, of Ford Motor Company from 1945 until his retirement in 1979.
