- Overhead View of the Firestone Singing Fountain, California Pacific International Exposition, San Diego, 1935 - In 1913, Henry Ford established Ford Motor Company's photographic department. Though few internal records describe company photography, remaining photographs reveal a wide range of departmental activity. Among many other events, Ford photographers documented the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego -- where the Firestone Singing Colored Fountains in front of the Ford Building were a popular spectacle.

In 1913, Henry Ford established Ford Motor Company's photographic department. - Advertising Poster, Barney Oldfield Endorsing Firestone Tires, circa 1910 - Racing hero Barney Oldfield built a career from his first race in Ford's "999." Then as now, durable tires were a key to victory, and Firestone sponsored his efforts. This poster features many of Oldfield's rides prior to 1910, including "999" at top left.

- Firestone "The Diamond Specials" Display, circa 1927 - By 1927, Firestone was an established market leader in the United States, manufacturing about 25 percent of all tires used here. This promotional display for the company's Diamond Special tires emphasized its gum-dipping process. Tires are supported by a cord body underneath the rubber surface. Firestone dipped the cotton cords in liquid rubber to help extend tire life.

The fair also provided the opportunity for companies to show off their achievements to millions of people. This souvenir ashtray embodied Firestone's featured product at the fair: rubber tires.

Tread stock was then wrapped around the carcass and pressed firmly into place with rollers. The carcass was then removed from the drum and formed into shape in a tire mold.
