- Milk in Such Containers May Be Unfit for Human Consumption, 1969 - Scientific debates about connections between DDT (a chemical used in pesticides), human health, and environmental degradation escalated in the late 1960s. Environmental activist organizations produced provocative interpretations of scientific data to promote their cause. The Ecology Center published this poster, featuring a photograph by Eli Leon, to raise awareness of the dangers of residual DDT in mothers' breast milk.

Carson stressed the detrimental effects of pesticide use, including DDT, on natural ecosystems and human health. Her testimony before the U.S. Congress and other evidence led to national legislation to mitigate environmental damage including the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1970) and banning DDT (1972).
